This is a 12-month tenure-accruing position that will be 70% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences) and 30% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) available in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. The faculty member will participate actively in undergraduate education and graduate education. The faculty member will seek contract and grant funding actively to support his/her research
program.

Teaching contributions will expand availability of required upper-division, undergraduate courses for Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics majors, allowing multiple sections of smaller sizes to be taught. Graduate teaching by the candidate will add needed electives to the Interdisciplinary Nutritional Sciences Doctoral program curriculum and allow for additional PhD student enrollment.

Possible courses to be taught by the successful candidate: Undergraduate courses: Nutrition and Disease, Nutrition and Metabolism (both required) Graduate courses: An elective to be added to the NS doctoral program curriculum. The research focus of the candidate should have some relevance to the nutritional
sciences such as: nutrient metabolism, nutritional biochemistry, clinical nutrition, community nutrition, nutritional physiology and pathology, genetics of nutrient utilization or a related field.

The REGISTERED DIETITIAN assesses, monitors, and educates dialysis patients about nutritional needs.

This position is full-time, 5 days/week.

Responsibilities

* Assess the individual patient nutrition needs.
* Educates the patient and family about the importance of diet and fluid control.
* Reviews laboratory results with the patient and makes recommendations to the patient and physician.
* Documents thoroughly according to DCI policy.
* Participates in team care planning, clinic CQI program and Risk Management.
* Educates staff about the renal diet and laboratory results.
* Participates in quality improvement activities, patient care conference and other clinic programs.
* Actively encourages and is an example of open communication between physicians, patients, and staff.

Qualifications:

BS or advanced degree in food and nutrition or dietetics and one year related experience in clinical nutrition.
